What does Forward Range do on Garmin LiveScope?

Forward Range determines the distance the sonar image extends in front of your transducer. Use high ranges to locate suspended fish in open water and low ranges to track your lure's movement and watch a fish react to your bait in real time.

How do I know when to change my Forward Range?
