How to Export Waypoints by Region on a Lowrance Unit
Managing waypoints on your Lowrance is part of keeping your unit running clean and usable. If your map is cluttered with years of saved spots, exporting specific areas lets you organize everything without losing data.
This process allows you to export waypoints, routes, and tracks from a selected area instead of dumping your entire system.
What You Need First
- A micro SD or full-size SD card depending on your unit
- The card must be 32GB or smaller or it will not be recognized
Once the card is inserted, you are ready to export.
Step-by-Step: Export a Region
- Press Pages
- Go to Storage
- Select Waypoints
- Choose Export Region
Your unit will bring up the map with two red markers:
- Upper left boundary
- Lower right boundary
Drag these to cover the exact area you want. This could be a single lake like Lake Conroe or a smaller section.
Everything inside that box will be exported. Anything outside will not.
Export Settings
After selecting your region:
- Press Menu
- Select Export
- Choose GPX format
GPX files are easier to work with on a computer and compatible with tools like Google Earth
Saving the File
You will then choose where to save:
- Memory Card (SD card) for transferring to a computer
- Internal storage if you want to keep it on the unit
If files already exist, select New to avoid overwriting.
Name your file clearly. A simple format works:
- Lake name
- Date
Example: Conroe_4-1-26
What to Do After Exporting
Once saved:
- Remove the SD card
- Plug it into your computer
- Open in Google Earth or editing software
From there you can:
- Delete unwanted waypoints
- Rename locations
- Organize by lake or region
This process keeps your unit running smoother and your mapping more efficient.
Optional Tools
If you want to filter or organize large waypoint files faster, you can use the waypoint filtering tool available on your site. It allows sorting by region and editing data before reloading it to your unit.
Improve Your Sonar Setup
If your screen still looks cluttered or inconsistent, that usually comes down to settings.
Fishfinder Coach offers:
- PDF settings guides for Lowrance units
- Video courses showing how to read sonar and use it on the water
