MEGA Live 1 vs MEGA Live 2: Which Transducer Do You Have?

MEGA Live 1 and MEGA Live 2 sound almost identical when you see them in a product selector. They are not the same transducer, and choosing the wrong option gives you the wrong settings guide.

The dependable way to tell them apart is the item number on the transducer identification label. Housing shape, dimensions, and fishfinder compatibility can cross-check the answer. A box, receipt, or registration record may show a separate system or package number instead of the transducer number.

Quick answer

  • 710304-1 on the transducer label means you have MEGA Live 1.
  • 710310-1 on the transducer label means you have MEGA Live 2.
  • If it is working with a HELIX, it is MEGA Live 1. MEGA Live 2 does not work with HELIX.
  • An exposed ridged circular feature on the broad face is the easiest visual clue for MEGA Live 2.

Compare the housing, not the mount angle. The mount can rotate into different viewing positions, so two pictures of the same generation can show the transducer at different angles.

TargetLock does not identify the generation by itself either. Humminbird says MEGA Live 2 works with new and existing TargetLock systems when TargetLock is running software 1.180 or later. Adapter 740251-1 is required only for existing TargetLock pole systems with a serial number below 250109010001. Check the transducer item number.

Where to Find the Item Number

Start with the transducer itself, then use the paperwork as a cross-check:

  1. Inspect the identification label on the transducer cable.
  2. Check a standalone-transducer box or receipt for 710304-1 or 710310-1.
  3. Check the dealer receipt, online order history, or Humminbird registration record, but remember that a complete TargetLock or hand-control package can have its own number.
  4. Use the pictures and compatible-unit chart below as a cross-check.

Do not use an accessory, bracket, or system-package number as the transducer number. For example, first-generation TargetLock and hand-control packages can show 710308-1 or 710309-1 even though the transducer itself is MEGA Live 1. Mounts and ice-fishing adapters have their own item numbers too.

If you are identifying other Humminbird sonar hardware on the same boat, use the broader Humminbird transducer identification guide.

Compatible Humminbird Fishfinders

Compatibility is useful when the label is missing, especially if the system is already working on the boat.

Fishfinder family MEGA Live 1 MEGA Live 2
XPLORE All models All models
APEX All models All models with software 5.060 or later
SOLIX All models G3 only, with software 5.060 or later
HELIX G3N 8 through 12, MEGA Side Imaging or MEGA Down Imaging models Not compatible
HELIX G4N 7 through 15, MEGA Side Imaging or MEGA Down Imaging models Not compatible

HELIX installations also require the Humminbird AS EC QDE Ethernet adapter for MEGA Live connectivity. The fishfinder model is still a cross-check, not final proof. A previous owner may have replaced a control head or moved the transducer from another boat.

Which Option Should You Choose in the Fish Finder Coach Bundles?

Once you know the item number, the selector is simple.

Forward Facing Sonar Bundle

In the Forward Facing Sonar Bundle, open FFS Transducer and choose:

  • Humminbird MEGA Live 1 for item 710304-1
  • Humminbird MEGA Live 2 for item 710310-1

This is the primary bundle when you need the forward-facing sonar course and the matching MEGA Live settings guide.

Full Boat Bundle

If you also run a separate side-imaging or down-imaging transducer, use the Full Boat Bundle. Under FFS Live Sonar Transducer, choose the same matching option:

  • Humminbird MEGA Live 1 for item 710304-1
  • Humminbird MEGA Live 2 for item 710310-1

The dialed-in numbers for your forward-facing sonar are inside the Forward Facing Sonar Bundle. If you also run side imaging or down imaging, the Full Boat Bundle adds those settings and courses in the same package.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the part number for MEGA Live 1?

The U.S. Humminbird item number for the first-generation MEGA Live Imaging transducer is 710304-1.

What is the part number for MEGA Live 2?

The Humminbird item number for MEGA Live 2 Forward-Facing Sonar is 710310-1.

Does MEGA Live 2 work with a HELIX?

No. Humminbird states that MEGA Live 2 is not compatible with any HELIX model. A working HELIX and MEGA Live installation uses the first-generation MEGA Live transducer, assuming the HELIX model and Ethernet connection meet Humminbird's requirements.

Does MEGA Live 2 work with SOLIX?

MEGA Live 2 works with SOLIX G3 models running software 5.060 or later. It does not work with SOLIX G1 or G2.

Can MEGA Live 1 work with an XPLORE?

Yes. Humminbird lists all XPLORE models as compatible with MEGA Live 1.

Can I identify my transducer by size alone?

No. Published dimensions may refer to the housing, mounted assembly, or retail package. Use the item number first and the dimensions as a cross-check.

Which bundle option do I select if I have TargetLock?

Choose by the transducer item number, not by the TargetLock name. Select Humminbird MEGA Live 1 for 710304-1 or Humminbird MEGA Live 2 for 710310-1. MEGA Live 2 also requires TargetLock software 1.180 or later, and older TargetLock pole systems below serial number 250109010001 require adapter 740251-1.
